this newsletter is mostly about the songs that have made me feel a little more alive. praise be. (the other day I earnestly said “thank the lord” in a work meeting, and ever since I’ve been overthinking if they thought I meant the biblical father? or do they know that’s just the vernacular I was born with and it has no affiliation with religion. such a fun thing to spiral about.)
So now that its clear, I’d like to say thank the lord for lady gaga, miley cyrus, and mariana. they’re the reason my shoulders want to shimmy a little, even though everything sucks. (hehe)
End of the World by Miley Cyrus: I’ve played this song 10 times a day since it came out. I’m so excited for Miley’s new album. There’s so much hope in this song and it’s so fun. She sang an acoustic version of it live and during the performance she gets emotional because the song is for her mom and her mom is in the audience, it wrecked me! Also this comment on the youtube video: (BAWLING)
“I just want to say that thanks to the songs of this girl, whom I admire, it brings me closer to my wife, who passed away in 2020. She always used to play your songs while dancing and singing at the same time. Thank you, Miley, for continuing to create music and making me imagine my wife dancing to your songs again. I will always support you, and you will be special.”
MARINA!!!! I think I’ve already mentioned Butterfly on this newsletter but I’m going to mention it again and I’ll add CUNTISSIMO. These songs are from her upcoming album Princess of Power which is said to be a disco-lit (love that word) electric pop. Also, the year I moved to Chicago I saw MARINA live and she’s coming back this year which is my 10th year living here. I still feel very close to who I was when I moved here, but I’m so glad I let parts of her go. (not the MARINA loving part, that’s 4 life.)
(Cuntissimo) Oh, baby, it’s a way of life
(Cuntissimo) Don't let nobody dull my shine
(Cu-cuntissimo) This ain’t no Bonnie and Clyde
(Uh-huh, uh-huh) But you can be my Thelma on the side
This girl on TikTok has me considering going on vacation in Wisconsin. I’m obsessed, I have to go.
Speaking of TikTok, if you and I have the same FYP, you’ve maybe seen this magician, The Spellbinder. My friends Amelia, Mileva, and Claire are extremely good gift-givers, and after a few Christmases together, I realized I couldn’t compete with their talents—so last year, I decided my gift would be tickets to an experience. Last year we went to Blue Man Group (rip chicago) ; this year, the gals chose Chicago Magic Lounge. Very belated, but last week we finally went—and the TikTok magician was doing a solo show. I’d say I’m still confused about the entire experience. There were parts, like when he came out “levitating” two Party City (rip) wands and we could clearly see the strings, that were... questionable. But then there were other moments—like when he turned flat drawings into 3D objects and made a bird appear out of thin air—that genuinely shocked me. I was a little disappointed we only saw one bird trick, though, because based on the viral video, birds-out-of-nowhere seems like his whole thing.
Moment of silence for the brands that most likely would’ve sponsored me: Party City and Blue Man Group. :(
My plea for you is to go see art this weekend!!!!
Oh one last thing, I got a kettle, it’s name is Clyde, i love it <3
